What is Equitable Digital Access?
Equitable digital access is fair accessibility to technology and the ability to use it in order to enhance the learning process. Digital access is equitable when students have the same opportunity to achieve the same education as other students.
How can you ensure that every student has access to technology?
- Create a schedule that includes each student.
- Have a set time limit set for rotations.
- Use a timer to indicate when it is time to rotate.
- Encourage students to bring their own device. Devices can be laptops, I pads, tablets, I pods, and smartphones.
- Utilize the computer lab.
- Assign simple computer assignments to begin with so students are successful.
- Be aware of students with disabilities or special needs. They may need special hardware or computer programs to aide them in utilizing the computer.
Blended Learning
Many schools are moving towards blended learning. Schools are realizing that they must embrace technology in order to prepare their students for the challenges they will meet in the workforce. Blended learning combines traditional instruction and digital media. Students are able to learn using programs that develop an individualized learning path.
